Budel 2010

For the first time we planed to visit the Budel show in Holland this year. I'm sure we will visit this show again. Mikkel, Peter, Stefan and I took the long trip in our 4 cars. Thanks a lot for a great trip, and for a super weekend. Great show, large swapmeet, a lot of sweet cars and nice people to share it with. Think I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Of course we were at the 1. Mai kaefer treffen again this year, and like last year and the year before, we had a great trip. This year all cars got down to Hannover and home again safe. Congrats to our friend Mikkel with the trophy for his sweet black oval window car, it's nice done to the first show with this car.. Think I will let the pictures tell the rest of the stories.

I got this very cool accessory for the exhaust pipes, think they match the car great, they are not small, but super awsome looking these Robri sharktail exhaust covers, I just love them.

Our friend Søren bought himself this sweet car, a mid sixties cabrio. I'm sure he had a hard time waiting for it to come to Denmark from the USA, but finaly it was on Danish ground. Congratulations with your new great looking car Søren. Hope to see this nice Bug O Rama show winner on Danish license plates as soon as the snow is gone. I'm realy looking forward to the spring and a lot of cabrio cruising, this season.

It was great to see a lot of cool racing, and how often do you see 4 schwimmwagens in the water at the same time, even though the weather was bad and there where cold at nights, theres no doubt it was worth the long boattrip to Oslo. Holiday pictures

This spring we where on holiday in Norway with the famaily, a very nice trip indeed. But you know even when you're on hoiliday with your girlfriend and your famaily, you still aware on the old cars from Wolfsburg. So driving arround sightseeing in the beautiful land of Norway my eye spotted some interesting, we just had to stop and take a look at. And as you can see, there where more then just one car. Unfurtunately there where'nt anyone home, so now great VW storries this time, but I got a few pictures.

Window accessory

Found this accessory for the side window, for fresh air in the cabin. So even though I knew it's a cool accessory part that i couldn't use for my cabrio, I bought it anyway. Think my brother is pretty satisfied about I did that, because it turned out that it fitted the Type 3 window perfect, so he became the lucky owner of this gear for his car.

Sold a set of Hagus mirrors to Gary in California. We run into some trouple with the shippingl of it, so it started the e-mail contact. Since then we have talked about a lot of other things then just the mirrors, among that, which cars we owend over the years. And in that case I have to say that Gary have been one lucky owner of some very cool cars. Among them there have been a 1952 export ragtop, a 1951 split and a 1953 oval ragtop, and now he own's a 1956 oval.Who wouldn't like to be the owner of just one of them, I know I sure would. For the first time ever, I wasn´t driving my own car to Hannover, but my friend Søren did, and I was at the passenger set all the way. Some of you might have notice that I have made a post on the blog earlier with a org shifter knob, but at that time I bought one that did not fit my car, ( stupid Thomas) so I sold it and was once again looking for one for my vert, and one day a good friend of mine skipt me an e-mail saying that it was time to buy if I wanted one for my car, so I did. It was not in super shape, it needed a cleaning and some fresh paint, but after that was done it now looks a lot better. Think it will by very nice in my car, and a lot better to shift gear with.

The tickets for the show was in my mailbox when I got home from work today. i almost can't wait until Thursday afternoon where we are taking of to England. I'm realy excited to visit the show again this year, hoping for great weather, top cars and a lot of super atmosphere.

Engine project

This is my new engine project, or as you can see it's actualy not very new, but to me it is. It's a 1200 cc 34 hp standard engine and the plan on the long time project is to make a super nice spare engine for my cabrio, you know just in case of. I have absolutly no time plan for this engine projekt, I'm sure it will take me a lot of time, but it's going to be a "when I feel for it" project.

Think I will need some new engine tin, so if you have something lying on the garage floor irritating you please let me know.

Orange Bay

This is Flemming, or actualy it's his car. A 1972 custom orange bay picup. For this vinter Flemming have made some new things for the car, among other things a new cover for the platform in matching colurs to the car. And some new rims, how many bay pick-ups have you seen on 19" wheels? So I think it's ready now for the season of 2009, and for the May cruiser madness to Hannover 1. of May.

Got into a nostalgic corner the other day. Was surfing the web for old pictures, and found among other oldschool pictures this one from Aarhus from back in the '60s. How cool is it with 2 cabrio's on the same picture from back then. I belive you would have been a cool fellow driving arround with a big smile on the face ,in your cabrio in the '60s. If our cars could tell us stories from their life, I belive that it would be a lot of hours with interesting and funny stories. But on the other hand, they could probably tell us things we wouldn't like to hear about.

This past sunday I went to the land of Angora for some VW christmas spirit. It's become a tradition the yearly garage meeting at the Angora boys here in December. And again this year there were a great spirit and a lot of nice VW talk exchange of goodies. This year there where a guest who have traveled all the way from Holland, it was nice talking to you Niels. Thank you boys and your girls for a great couple of hours in the garage. Volksworld show 2009

Once again we are going to Volksworld show at Sandown Park, I have allready orderd the airplane tickets, lucky enough I didn´t booked it at Sterling. So Mikkel and the Winther brothers are flying over there, and are looking alot forward to see the show of 2009 and visit a very god friend of ours. The goodies are still out there, a few weeks ago I got myself a set of NOS Delco windscreen wipers for my cabrio. Thanks to my friend Peter, they got delivered direct to my door, because he was gooing for the swapmeet on sjælland, and then carried them home for me, thanks a lot Peter. So when they are mounted on the car soon ready for the next season, I'm sure that we will have a season of 2009 with a lot of sun, when I got a perfect working set of wipers.

Last cruise 2008

Yesterday we put the cars away in the garage, for the winter and all the nasty salt they will put on the road soon. So the fun is over for this year, the fall is here, and it's getting cold and rainfull. A few days before we put the cars away, there was a beautiful sunny weather, so we took the chance to shoot a couple of fall pictures with all the nice colours this time a year brings us. But hopefully there will be some nice times in the garage over the winter, getting the cars ready for the spring.

Home sweet home vol. 2

It has been a sad aircoold summer for our dad, the Ghia haven't been much fun for him standing by the garage, but finaly it is running again, some days ago it got home from the engine people in the northen Jutland, they have done a great job adjusting the engine, I think it´s running better now then ever before, unfortunatly the season for the aircoolers is soon at the end for this year, but then it´s ready for the season of 2009, with Winther senior at the steering wheel.

It's an event for all types of classic cars, that's taking place here in Silkeborg every year in auguat. There's a market place with vintage cars for sale, and you can drive your own car round on a race track, and lot's of other things. This year vintage Volkswagens and Karmann Ghia where meeting at the local Volkswagen house saturday. But unfortunately I was at the hospital at that time so I was not abel to be there this year. Some weeks ago we got visitors here in Silkeborg from far away, some of our family from Canada was in Europe on summer holiday, and part of their Europe tour was here in Denmark. We decided one evening to go for a small guided tour arround in Silkeborg in the "air" cars all of us, to see some of the special places in our town and show them what's new in the past year's among other things the makeover of the old paper factory. So that day i was shooting this picture with all 3 cars. It was great to see you again here in Denmark, hope to see you within the foreseeable future, and who knows hopefully in Canada.

Bugs Funny 2008

Well once again we went to Lynge to join Bugs Funny, and Copenhagen Wings did a great job this year to. I must say you have got everything well organized, nothing left out, all was well planned, except for a place to wash car before the show, but think there will be a place for that next year, right Mette. I will not list all the great things about Bugs Funny, because there's a lot to list, but when it comes to bad things I can only think of 2. First: The bar is so nice, that it's very hard to get out of there in decent time, and second. the weather wasn't that great, but im sure it will be a lot more sunny at Bugs Funny #3, so hope to be there again next year 17-19. July 2009 for a great weekend with happy VW people.

Home sweet home

This monday the Ghia finally got home from Germany, it have been a very long 1. Mai käfer treffen for the Ghia, 2 and a half month away, who would have thought it would take that long time to get it home. But now it's fixed and here and just need to go to Støvring for a engine ajustment soon. So hopefully it will soon drive like a sweet dream.

MIB Summer Meet 2008

The Winther's and our girlfriends went to the Summer meet this weekend, arranged by the VW club in Aalborg. This show was realy great, it was super organized, and took place in some very nice surroundings, this place is perfect for this summer meet to grow. Only sad thing about this weekend was the typical Danish summer, we got a lot of rain, but let's hope the weather will be more sunny next year.

Yesterday I got my new very nice chrome side trim mounted on the cabrio, had some difficulties with dismounting the old set, but with some help from a friend and the right tools it succeded. I'm very pleased with this new set, total straight and glossy.

Got my Sperrwolf water transfer decal mounted some days ago. My friend friend Peter found them on the web out there in the big world. By my opinion this is a very cool thing, and I've been told that when you back then, bought a Sperrwolf shifter lock, the decal was in the package to mount in your car window. Drilling time

I was visiting my friend Peter blue hat "plade" the other day. When we had a deal about a meeting Peter and I, he said, if you drive in your cabrio out here, we can do some of the small things on your car, that we have talked about. We called it a deal and I drove in my cabrio for visiting Peter. We had a great evening with VW talk, pizza and ice cold coke, but when it was time for mounting the Robri shoe scraber on the right runningboard, Peter turned to someting twisted between a child and a monster, he was in his own world when he got the drilling machine in the hand, and permission from me to drill in the runningboard. As you can see on the pictures it turned out great, and the shoe scaber got mounted just great, thanks for your help my friend. The pictures was a hard one this time, because on one of them, where Peter become a monster, was to terrifying for this site, so had to leave it out because of the censorship of this site, but if you dare to see it tjek it out on http://vw-bluehats.blogspot.com/2008/06/drilling.html

National Vintage day

The other evening Stefan and I went for a very small cruise round the city, we where cruisen by our self at the begining, but all in a sudden i heard the sound of the brown Notch behind me. I have been wundering if there's a special story with these Hagus accessory mirrors? Most cars i've seen drive with the Albert mirror (original or repro) or the original standard one, but you don't see that many with the Hagus mirror. Does any one know the storry of it, which periode it's from and if it was sold as and original accessory for your Volkswagen back then? I would like to know some more about them, so if any one know, pleace let me know as well.

First of all congratulations to all the other trophy winners in Hannover this year, 6 Danish winning cars, by my opinion great to see that lot of Danish cars doing fine at a show like this. My brother and I was lucky enough to be among the winners this year. Unfortunately we had to leave the Ghia at the first gas station in Germany, the engine didn't sound so well becaurse of a bad valve. But hope it soon will be running again. Thanks a lot to Gustav and Norbert for taking car of a place to sleep, it was once again super. The trip back home went very well, with Peter, jens and "Dorit" in front, setting the speed back home to little Denmark. We had a great trip, except of the Ghia breakdown, but with a lot of nice cars, great mood and fantastic burgers so thanks a lot boys for a couple of super days.

New accessory

Got this new super cool shifter knob by the mail delivery the other day from Canada. So I was one big happy face, when I drove out to the garage to mount it, but unfortunately i have not been awake when I bought it, the knop is 7 mm in thread, and for my cab it schold have been 10 mm, so now it's up for sale again, and I'm sad.

I'm sorry for not posting for some time now, but been busy with other things then the computer. But finaly last Thursday we got both the cars out in the sunlight, and we drove a small trip in the cabrio for the first time this year, man it felt great. So we almost ready for a new season now, just have to do a few things today and we will be ready to go to Hanover tomorrow.

New Book vol. 2

I got myself this new Haynes Volkswagen Transporter book that just got published March 2008, think it's very nice, and more then a bit cool to see a Danish car in it. So now I'm considering start reading, I have to admit that I'm better at bying the book, and looking at all the pictures, then sitting stil under the blancket with a box of Werther´s original and just reading and realaxing with a great Volkswagen book.

Volksworld show 2008

Last weekend mikkel( you know him from a earlier post, it's him with the sweet silver notchback) my brother and I, got ourself a weekend trip to England to visit our friend Benny who lives in Oxford, and then, we got the opportunity to see the Volksworld show at the same time. So saturday we drove down to see the show. The weather was great, at least to start with, the mood was high, and we where ready to see some cool cars, and I can sure teel we did. There where about 100 nice show cars inside, and maybe twice as many outside, not all top dollar show cars, but most of them very nice anyway. So I thought i would share a few with you. I'm sure it's not the last time we're going to the Volksworld show.

For about a week ago we got tyres on the new rims for the Ghia. Then for a moment the sun was shining, so we had to put them on to see how it looks and how it fits. Think it works very well for the car, and we are very contented about the way it looks on brand new gasburners.

Found a disc with old pictures of some of the first cars my brother and I have owend, so I got a bit nostalgic and thought I would share it with you. Actual it's a bit funny the first aircooler on license plates for both of us where a 1959 type 1. Stefan have been the owner of this brown one, before he bought the Ghia and the Notchback, and I was summer cruisen for 5 years in the black and red one before i bought the cabrio.

Peter "plade" and Jens from the John Doe Vee Dubs and I, have been in cruiser music mode for a couple of evenings now, to get ready for the spring and the cruisin to great music. As I mentioned earlier Peter "plade" bought a bad ass small Coca Cola Cooler. And Jens got this super sweet 7UP cooler. We now turned their two coolers and one of my Coca Cola coolers to pure summer cruisin music coolers. So let it be summer and let's go cruisin. The gear for it is ready now, but which number of music is by your opinion the ultimate cruiser song? War with Low rider or The Beach Boys with I Get Around or........?

This boy got skills. Søren is one of the Angora boys, and he have been the glad owner of some realy sweet rides through the time. At the moment he is in some kind of a split mode with his 2 type 1 splits, one in rat race edition and the other in shinny cruiser edition. Make sure to visit Team Angora Racing's new websit, and tjek out Søren's cars among other cool stuff, I belive this will be a nice forum to follow. The key word about Søren must be "fast" I have never before seen any get things done on a VW, so nicely in that high a tempo as he does, keep up the good work Søren.

Look what I got for Christmas from my girlfriend Line, these 2 super cool foto prints. It's printet out of some pictures I got shooted some time ago, as you can see in an earlier post. It's a part of these 2 foto's, one of the rear light and one of the trip speedometer, that soon will be hanging on the wall in our living room. You can see them on the last picture.

I just love this flower 1302, the special thing I like the most about this car, is that it's Annette's own car, and completely like she likes it. We where at Le bug show in Belgium last year, and she drowe all the way down there, and home again, think she just love to drive her car. Then Guller her husband sits on the passenger seat, or in another car, with the camera, but don't think it matters that much for Annette as long as she's behind the steering wheel of her flower car. Looking forward to the 2008 seson, and to go to some car shows with you people, it's always great company to go with you. Wonder where we are going next time?

Thanks a lot guys for a nice sunday at the garage, it's a nice thing to go to the Angora garage for a Christmas get together, keep that tradition up guys. And thanks to the girls, Søren's sistes for making pancakes, they where great, and Henriette and Line to, for heating them up and making hot mulled wine.

Got this picture from back in the days, it's taken to Bug Stop skagen, where Thomas G, my brother Stefan and I where at. At that time the 2 others didn't own a aircooled car, so the 3 of us where all driving in my 1959 type 1 together to the Bug stop meet. I think it's from 1998. I owned this car for about 5 years before I sold it to another guy also named Thomas, so it still drives arround here in the city.
